why ginkgo beads?

I chose the name ginkgo beads as a tribute to the Ginkgo tree — an ancient symbol of resilience, longevity, and quiet strength. Just as the Ginkgo has endured through time and transformation, my handmade pieces are created to carry meaning, weather life’s seasons, and grow with you, as I continue to grow in my craft.

about the beads

Beads are deeply meaningful to me — they feel like tiny worlds, each one carrying its own history and energy. I’m especially drawn to vintage beads, whose provenance tells rich, often forgotten stories from the past. Sourcing them is a joy, like treasure hunting, and arranging them into jewelry becomes a meditative act, a quiet, creative ritual where each combination feels intentional and alive.

Each piece is lovingly handmade using mainly freshwater pearls and rare vintage glass beads, most of which date back to 1940s–1950s occupied Japan. These beads were crafted by skilled glassmakers — rice farmers by day, artisans by night — who poured care and precision into every tiny detail. I’m drawn to the history they carry, and I find joy in transforming these treasured materials into one-of-a-kind pieces of beauty and whimsy.
